Woody Herman & Gilles Peterson + + 9 March 2008

最近心にゆとりがでてきたので、思わずレコードの大人買いなんてしてみた。そのうちの２枚、ウッディ・ハーマンの「Children of Lima」 とジャイルス・ピーターソンの最新コンピ、「In the House (Exclusives EP1)」。ウッディ・ハーマンのオーケストラは昔から好きで、週末の朝ゴハンにいいカンジ。意外にもジャイルスのコンピを買うのは今回が初めて。これはカリズマの音に惹かれて迷わず購入。生活にまた新しいリズムが入って嬉しいわ♪

As I managed to get out from my current hectic and stressed environment recently, I've bought a lot of vinyls to felicitate upon myself : ) They are the two of them - Woody Herman's Children of Lima and Gilles Peterson's In the House (Exclusives EP1). I like Mr. Herman's orchestra jazz since long time ago and tracks from this album suits weekend lazy breakfast. And surprisingly, this is the first time for me to buy Gilles P's complilations. Karizma's cool track made me buy this album without any hesitation. I can live with new rhysm for a whilie - wonderful!

久しぶりのソウル・ファンク。最近テンポの速い物ばかり聞いていたので、ゆったりしたハモンドオルガンの音にかなり癒される１枚。友人が少し遅いバーステープレゼントでくれたのだけど、制作年も国もジャケットやレコードからは見つけられず。フランスもの？

Haven't listened to proper soul/funk mucis as I've been getting into some d'n'b/hiphop things recently but I would say this slow organ sound is really making me relaxed. So, a friend of mine gave me this vinyl for my d-day and unfortunately there are no information written either on the cover and the vinyl - probably made in France according to the title?

珍しく土曜の午後に時間ができたので久しぶりにソーホーにあるサウンズ・オブ・ザ・ユニバースに行って来た。のんびり在庫をブラウズした後、Henrik SchwarzがリミックスしたMark MurphyのLove is What Staysをゲット。お店のお兄さんもMark Murphyが好きらしく、今度ロニー・スコッツでライブをする話や、今まで観た彼のライブ等々軽く世間話をして帰ってきた。これがロンドンの好きなところ : )

Luckily I've got time this Saturday afternoon and went to Sounds of the Universe in Soho. After spending a lot of time browsing their stocks, I bought Mark Murphy's Love is What Stays (Henrik Schwarz remix). A shop assistant is also into Mark Murphy and we had a chat about his next live at Ronnie Scotts in Soho and his previous lives etc. This is why I like London : )

今回は番外編。Jazzanova and FriendsがリミックスしたコンピレーションCD、Homecooking。 ジャケット・デザインが料理のレシピ本みたいな造りになってるので音楽とミスマッチなのでは？？と思って聴いてみたらなるほど、昔リリースした音をうまく味付けしてリメイクしてるという訳ね。さすがヨーロッパを代表する音のシェフ達だわ。

Exceptionally, here I will introduce a CD called Homecooking remixed and complied by Jazzanova and Frineds. The cover design is like a cooking recipe book and I didn't think it suits their sound - but, I see! Some old tracks are remixed into current-ish taste and produced in a clevar way. This is why they are one of the best sound "Chef" group in Europe.

こちらもNew Yorkから。Greenwich Villageの週末マーケットで The 5th Dimensionのアルバムをゲット。2ドルで売られていてもう既にかなりのバーゲンだったんだけど、A面の3曲目に致命的なキズがあったので他2枚買うから1ドル安くしてよ。と言ったら、「あと2枚買ってくれるならそれあげるわ。」との事で$0.00でゲット。70年代のアメリカの匂いがプンプン詰まったこの１枚はブラジリアンをかける前に聴きたい感じ。

The 5th Dimension Album - this is also what I bought in New York, at Greenwich Village weekend market. It was already bargain and priced 2 dollers but unfortunately there is one deep scratch on track 3/side A. I asked 1 doller discount instead of buying 2 more vinyls. But a girl in the stall was very generous and she gave it to me, thank yooou! Good to listen to that 70's American poppy tracks before playing some Brazilian sound I reckon.

今日の１枚はニューヨークから。ブラジリアンではもうおなじみ、セルジオ・メンデスの"Yes, yes y'all"をBlack Thought of the Roots, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Debi Nova and Will of the Black Eyed Peasがフューチャリング。正直私はヒップホップには全然詳しくないのだけど、これはいい感じでミックスされていて盤もキレイな緑だし旅の記念にゲット。

Today's vinyl is from the States, New York City. Mr. Sergio Mendes's "Yes, yes y'all" is featured by Black Thought of the Roots, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Debi Nova and Will of the Black Eyed Peas. To be honest I'm not good at hiphop music but this sounds very good to me and the vinyl is a beautiful green so got it for my holiday present : )

引き続きEspecial Recordsから。前回の１枚にも吉澤氏の曲が入ってます。昨日頂いて（ありがとー！）今日ずっと家で聞いてるんだけど、サウンドにパンチがあって、特にBeyond the Sunshineがとっても心地よい。ロンドンの夏の終わりも悪くないなって思えてくる１枚。

From Especial Records again. Mr. Yoshizawa's track is also in the one I introduced below. I've been listening to this record today and really like the cheerful sound - especially "Beyond the Sunshine", it's making me so comfortable. I don't think I will be miserable from the end of summer in London with this and the one below. Merci pour me les donner. xxxxx

The Five Corners Quintet @ Soul Brother Records + + 26 August 2006

先に謝っちゃいます。会社の皆さんごめんなさい。一昨日外打ち合わせの帰りに歩いていたら、前から気になってたレコ屋を偶然発見。暫くサボって物色してしまいました。お店の名前はソウルブラザーレコーズ。自宅のある北ロンドンからテムズ河を越えるので行きたいと思いつつも何となく後回しになってて 、「ここで素通りしたら次いつここに来るか分からないし…（←かなり言い訳）」と思いちょっと寄ってみる事に。もう品揃えが素晴しい。これはいけないハマってしまう・・・私仕事中。と思ったので、とりあえずニュージャズ・セクションだけちゃんと見て、買いそびれてたThe Five Corners Quintetをゲット。 店員も「何でも聞いてね」と言ってくれたり、帰り際にカタログまでくれて至れり尽くせり。週末にまた河越えして今度はじっくり時間かけてチェックしないと！

Well, I apologise to my colleagues in advance - the day before yesterday, I came across a record shop which I wanted to go when I was on the way back to my office after a meeting then had a record hunting for a while. The name of the shop is called "Soul Brother Records" in East Putney. My flat is in the north and it's very difficult to spare time to cross the river - my devil part said to me "Hung on Atsuko, if you don't go in now, you will regret!" and I was tempted completely... Should stop excusing now... their vinyl selection is absolutely superb and I was really amazed! As I had to go back to my office straigtaway, I concentrated on Nu Jazz section and got The Five Corners Quintet which I missed to buy. People working in the shop are also very nice and they said to me "Feel free to ask me anything" and also gave me their catalogues. Will definitely check the rest of sections soon!

Jazz from Finland! 今日はSohoにあるSounds of the Universeでフィンランドジャズを1枚ゲット。1960年代の音源を4年前にReissueしているので既にお持ちの方もいるかもしれませんが、最近北欧ジャズにハマっているので遅ればせながらココでご紹介。この間連れて行ってもらったThe Five Corners Quintetも久々に楽しめたJAZZだったし、 またレコ屋通いが楽しくなりそうです。

Jazz from Finland! I found this vinyl at Sounds of the Universe in Soho today! These tracks were recorded in 60s and reissued in 2002. I think you have already got it but I'm getting into Scandinavian Jazz now so introduce it anyway. The other day my friend took me to the Fine Corners Quinted gig and I got into it also. That makes me continue my record hunting yay!

Palace Bargain + + 15 April 2006

今日はロンドン南、クリスタル・パレスに住む友人宅へお邪魔する前に近所のマーケットで久々のレコードハンティング。3枚1ポンドのコーナーでJazz/Easy Listeningを数枚ゲットしてきました。中でもSusan Moughanの"Hey Look Me Over"はかなりの当たり。今からこれと友人宅で借りて来たtelepopmusikのCDで４月の雨降る夜を過ごします。

Before visiting with a friend in Crystal Palace this afternoon, I'd popped into a market and done record hunting which I haven't done recently. There was a "3 for 1 quid" place and I picked up some jazz/easy listening records. I quite like Susan Moughan's "Hey Look Me Over", cool! I'm gonna put this on and then listen to telepopmusic CD from friend's place during the April shower evening.

The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby + + 2 April 2006

I bought this at DMR in Shibuya, Tokyo in January. The cover looks bizarre as she's playing a Japanese traditional instrument "koto" wearing kimono. The tracks are quite good - I think they are very nice to put for easy listening and lounge mix.
